Best Ham & Cheese Melt
This sandwich is my homage to my Momma ❤️ Growing up I would often complain that there was nothing in the house to eat. The pantry would be completely full but it had nothing I actually wanted to eat. So like a total brat I’d whine and complain and complain and complain until my Mom couldn’t take it anymore, broke down and made something for me.
On cold winter days she would make me a yummy, gooey ham, cheese and tomato melt. It was so good. Sooo good! I loved eating them. And a few days ago I was reminiscing about this and then the melt became a craving. So I hauled it over to the grocery store and bought the simple ingredients needed. I did upgrade some of the ingredients but honestly this sandwich is just a great go-to lunch - you can use whatever bread or cheese your little heart desires!
Ingredients:
- Italian bread, sliced
- Heirloom tomatoes
- Sliced deli ham
- Grueyre cheese, shredded
- butter
Directions:
- Place your pan on medium heat and butter one side of your bread and place buttered side down.
- Add a sprinkle of cheese, then ham, tomatoes and lastly, more cheese.
- Butter the second bread slice and place the buttered side up over the sandwich. Once the bottom slice is toasted golden brown, about 3-5 minutes carefully flip the sandwich and toast the other side. If cheese isn’t gooey enough for you grab a lid and cover the pan for about a minute or two. Enjoy!
